Wim Wenders (the director of 'Paris, Texas' and 'Wings of Desire') has in 'The End of Violence' made a classic and stylish paranoia thriller set in the cool, modern and perplexing city of Los Angeles.

Cynical action movie producer Mike Max (Bill Pullman) is kidnapped and beaten in a road-side hold-up but he escapes leaving his assailants dead and his trophy wife (Andie MacDowell) plotting to take over his business empire.

Just one person knows what really happened, government surveillance expert Ray Bering (Gabriel Byrne), who viewed the event from his high-tech observatory.

But as it transpires, Ray is in no position to help, as he is in turn being observed by FBI chiefs.
