Takeuchi, renowned for her work on “Gravity Falls” and other notable shows, announced the disheartening cancellation on Twitter, expressing her sentiments, “I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel Season 2 of ‘Inside Job.’ Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up.”

A representative from Netflix has also verified the cancellation of Season 2 of “Inside Job,” a decision that seemingly contradicts the show’s renewal announcement made by the streaming giant just last June.
“Inside Job,” a playful homage to the ’90s sci-fi drama “The X-Files,” featured an ensemble cast including Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, and Clark Duke. The show was co-executive produced by Takeuchi herself, alongside “Gravity Falls” creator, Alex Hirsch.
The show’s debut season consisted of two parts: the first half, comprising ten episodes, premiered on Netflix in October 2021, while the second part, consisting of eight episodes, made its debut this past November. The animated comedy delves into the enigmatic world of the shadow government and the dysfunctional team responsible for executing the world’s most intricate conspiracies.
Set within the confines of Cognito Inc., a clandestine organization within the shadow government, the series revolves around the anti-social tech genius Reagan Ridley (Caplan) and her partner Brett Hand (Duke), as they embark on a relentless quest to unveil the world’s countless hidden secrets. Despite her unyielding optimism, Reagan encounters perpetual obstacles on her journey to securing her dream promotion, including her eccentric, conspiracy-obsessed father (Slater) and her unreliable colleagues.
Reflecting on the cancellation, Takeuchi lamented, “Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to have been able to share what was in store with you all.”
