Is Morena Baccarin‘s Vanessa Carlysle joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? On a recent episode of the “Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum” podcast, the actor revealed, “It may or may not work out.” According to Baccarin, she’s in talks to star in the upcoming “Deadpool 3,” but negotiations have hit a snag because “we have not agreed on terms.” It’s worth noting that the sequel will mark the first “Deadpool” movie set in the MCU.

Baccarin, known for her role in “Firefly,” portrayed Vanessa Carlysle, the fiancée to Wade Wilson/Deadpool, in the first two “Deadpool” movies. Her character met an early demise in the beginning of “Deadpool 2” in a satirical reference to “fridging,” a criticized storytelling device in which a female character is killed to advance the development of a male character.

Although Vanessa met her end in “Deadpool 2,” her potential involvement in “Deadpool 3” isn’t ruled out. The introduction of the MCU multiverse opens up new possibilities, and with “Deadpool 3” bringing together Ryan Reynold’s irreverent superhero with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, there’s room for unexpected twists. Jackman is reprising his role as a different version of Wolverine, distinct from the character fans have known since 2000’s “X-Men.” Importantly, this Wolverine met his demise in 2017’s “Logan,” and Jackman has emphasized that “Deadpool 3” won’t tamper with that timeline.
On the “Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum” podcast, Baccarin shared, “Yeah, what is up with ‘Deadpool 3’? That’s a really good question. I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here. I’d like to be in it. They have called me about being in it. Right now, we have not agreed on terms, and everybody’s trying their best and doing their best. It may or may not work out. I don’t know.”

“I do think this movie, since Marvel-Disney acquired this ‘Deadpool’ universe, they’re trying to reinvent it a little bit,” expressed Baccarin. “This movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool. So we’ll see. Hugh is going to be a huge part of it. I’m sure he’ll be great.”
Regarding additional details, Variety has sought comment from Baccarin’s representative.
The cast of “Deadpool 3” will feature new additions such as Emma Corrin and Emmy winner Matthew Macfadyen, alongside returning franchise regulars Karan Soni (Dopinder) and Leslie Uggams (Blind Al). Disney has scheduled the release of “Deadpool 3” for November 8, 2024.
