Nicholas Lloyd Webber, the son of renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, peacefully passed away on March 25 in Basingstoke, England, after bravely battling gastric cancer for 18 months. He was just 43 years old.
The heart-wrenching news of his son’s passing was shared by the grieving theater composer himself.
“I am utterly devastated to announce that my beloved elder son, Nick, departed this world a few hours ago at Basingstoke Hospital,” read the statement. “Our entire family is gathered, and we are overwhelmed with grief. Your kind thoughts during this immensely challenging time mean the world to us.”
Nicholas’s health had taken a critical turn, leading to his admission to hospice care on March 23, following a pneumonia diagnosis linked to his cancer. Andrew, his father, had previously conveyed the situation through an Instagram video, expressing gratitude for the flood of support for his son.
“I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible outpouring of support for my son, Nick,” said Andrew in the video. “He’s now under the care of a hospice, bravely battling his illness. I believe he’s past the worst of this initial bout of pneumonia, a cruel side effect of his cancer. We’re all here, the family has come together, and it’s where we need to be.”
Born on July 2, 1979, Nicholas Lloyd Webber embarked on a remarkable artistic journey, following in the illustrious footsteps of his father and grandfather.
