Died: Laura Crane
In classic Scream fashion, the movie kicks off with a spine-chilling death scene, and this time, it’s Laura Crane, portrayed by Samara Weaving, who meets a grim fate. Laura is a college professor specializing in slashers, and her ill-fated date starts innocently enough in a bar. However, we all know that in the Scream universe, such encounters rarely end well.
Laura’s attempt to assist her online date takes a dark turn when she’s led into a dimly lit alley, where a Ghostface killer strikes. Multiple stabbings later, Laura’s life is tragically cut short. But fear not, because in the world of Scream, vengeance is swift. The very killer who claimed Laura’s life soon meets their own demise at the hands of another Ghostface.
Died: Jason Carvey
In a surprising twist for the Scream franchise, Scream VI opens with the unmasking and immediate demise of a killer. Tony Revolori takes on the role of Jason Carvey, a cinema student with an intense passion for the Stab film series. Jason and his roommate Greg initially seem like they might be the central figures of the movie, planning their own Ghostface killing spree.
However, things take a sharp turn when Jason returns home to share the news of his murderous act against Laura, a teacher who had given him a bad grade. Instead of partnering in terror with Greg, Jason encounters a gruesome sight: Greg’s dismembered body stuffed inside the fridge. This shocking discovery marks the end of Jason’s character, making him and Greg the first official victims of the new Ghostface killers in Scream VI.
Died: Dr. Stone
The new Ghostfaces are on a mission to eliminate anyone who gets too close to Sam Carpenter, and this leads them to target her psychologist, Dr. Stone, portrayed by Henry Czerny. In a chilling sequence, Dr. Stone becomes the victim of a brutal attack in his own office. His assailant repeatedly slams his head against the door before ultimately stabbing him to death. To make matters even more unsettling, the killer absconds with Sam’s confidential medical file, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the plot of Scream VI.
Died: Anika Kayoko
One of the new characters introduced in Scream VI is Anika, played by Devyn Nekoda. She’s in a relationship with Mindy and becomes part of the Woodsboro survivors’ group. However, her fate takes a tragic turn when Ghostface launches an attack on Sam and Tara’s apartment. In a tense and terrifying sequence, Mindy, Sam, and Anika attempt to escape the relentless killer by crossing a ladder between two apartments. Tragically, Anika, who had been stabbed earlier, lacks the strength to hold on as Ghostface shakes the ladder. While Mindy and Sam manage to make it to safety on the other side with the help of Danny, played by Josh Segarra, Anika falls to her death in a heart-wrenching scene.
Lived: Gale Weathers
When attempting to set a trap for Ghostface, the Woodsboro survivors decide to leave Courtney Cox’s Gale Weathers out of the plan. Sam and Tara still hold a grudge against the reporter for betraying their trust and writing a new book about the events of 2022’s Scream. This book fuels online conspiracies, falsely accusing Sam of being the mastermind behind the previous massacre, which the survivors believe is the motive behind the new attacks. Ghostface, however, sees through the trap and instead pays Gale a visit. After killing Gale’s new boyfriend, Ghostface and the reporter engage in a gruesome battle for survival. Gale manages to put up a fierce defense, buying enough time for Sam and Tara to reach her apartment. Though she sustains multiple stab wounds and ends up in critical condition, Gale’s resilience shines through, and by the end of the film, it’s clear that she’ll survive yet another deadly encounter with Ghostface.
Lived: Sam Carpenter
Despite enduring multiple beatings and stabbings, Sam miraculously manages to walk on her own at the conclusion of Scream VI, a feat that eludes some of her unfortunate friends. In addition to surviving the harrowing events of the film, Sam undergoes a significant transformation during the final showdown against the three Ghostface killers. She comes to terms with her family legacy and acknowledges that she possesses some of the killer instincts inherited from her father, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich). Sam realizes that this doesn’t mean she’s destined to become a deranged serial killer, but she’s now prepared to do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones.
Lived: Tara Carpenter
Tara picks up a few survival skills from her sister during the intense final confrontation of Scream VI, channeling her teenage rage against the Ghostface killer. Although she’s in rough shape by the end of the movie, there’s little doubt she’ll make a complete recovery.
Lived: Kirby Reed
Scream VI welcomed back Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed, a survivor from Scream 4 who had become an FBI agent dedicated to thwarting Ghostface-like killers nationwide. Following the events of Scream in 2022, Kirby grapples with a mental breakdown, prompting her to take a break from her FBI duties. Nevertheless, she returns to New York to combat the new wave of killers, a choice that comes with a heavy price. During the climactic battle, Kirby endures a gunshot, multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, and even more injury when Sam removes the knife lodged in her body to use it against Ghostface. Remarkably, Kirby manages to survive, though she’ll bear the scars of her harrowing ordeal.
Lived: Mindy Meeks-Martin
When the survivors opt to confront Ghostface on Halloween night, the group gets separated while riding the subway. Mindy and Jack Champion’s Ethan find themselves alone in a subway car, and due to Mindy’s distrust of the newcomer, she attempts to create some distance between them. It’s during this moment that Ghostface cunningly infiltrates their midst, camouflaged among costumed passengers, and viciously stabs Mindy in the abdomen. Upon realizing the horrifying turn of events, Ethan urgently calls for assistance, and Mindy is rushed to the hospital. Her wound appears severe, but miraculously, she survives, summoning the strength to reunite with her brother at Ghostface’s shrine following the ultimate showdown.
Lived: Chad Meeks-Martin
Chad and Tara engage in continuous flirtation throughout the entirety of Scream VI, yet their attempts to solidify their connection always seem to fall short. It’s not until moments before a brutal Ghostface attack in the killer’s shrine that they finally share their first kiss. Chad valiantly tries to fend off the masked assailant, but their efforts are complicated when a second Ghostface enters the fray. The two assailants ruthlessly stab Chad multiple times, seemingly sealing his tragic fate. However, in a surprising twist just before the credits roll, we witness paramedics rushing to Chad’s aid and transporting him to an ambulance. So, it appears Chad is destined to live on despite the odds.
Died: Ethan Bailey
In an intriguing twist, one of the Ghostface killers in Scream VI turns out to be Ethan, the brother of Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid). Richie had previously been one of the Ghostfaces in the 2022 Scream, meeting his demise when Sam unleashed a relentless 22 stabs upon him. Scream VI takes a different turn as Richie’s entire family bands together to seek vengeance for his death, marking the first time in the franchise that three killers collaborate. Ethan appears to meet his end first during the climactic showdown. However, in keeping with the tradition of Scream movies, where a final jumpscare is almost expected, Ethan surprisingly rises once more to launch another attack on Sam and Tara, just when we believed the battle was concluded. Nevertheless, Tara swiftly deals with him, ensuring that he is genuinely and irrevocably deceased the second time around.
Died (twice!): Quinn Bailey
Liana Liberato’s character, Quinn, initially appears to meet her demise when Ghostface invades Tara and Sam’s apartment, brutally stabbing her shortly after her unnamed lover suffers a gruesome fate in the bathroom. However, Quinn’s tragic demise takes an unexpected turn in the final act when it is revealed that she is Richie’s sister and has been conspiring with Ethan to terrorize the survivors from Woodsboro. In the heat of the climactic battle, Sam delivers a decisive gunshot to Quinn’s forehead, ensuring that she is unequivocally deceased the second time around.
Died: Detective Bailey
While Dermot Mulroney’s character, Detective Bailey, initially appears as a potential savior, it’s gradually revealed that he’s the true antagonist behind the mayhem. Bailey, as it turns out, is the father of Richie, Ethan, and Quinn, and he seems to have quite the knack for nurturing psychopathic tendencies in his offspring. In the climactic final act of Scream VI, Bailey’s sinister agenda comes to light as he coerces Sam into donning Billy Loomis’ iconic mask, intending to murder her and seek vengeance for Richie’s demise. He aims to prove to the world that Sam has inherited her father’s murderous genes.
However, a tense showdown unfolds, featuring a flurry of gunshots and knife wounds exchanged between Sam and Bailey. Sam cleverly plays along, delivering a chilling phone call while wearing the mask. Eventually, she seizes the opportunity to sneak up on Bailey, repeatedly stabbing him. In a poignant moment, Sam reflects on her identity, emphasizing that she won’t succumb to the psychopathy of her father. But in a twist of fate, as she locks eyes with Tara, Sam ultimately decides to finish the detective off. Her resolve is clear: she won’t become a psychopath, but she’s more than willing to go to great lengths to protect her family.
Lived: Danny Brackett
Danny, the charming neighbor living across the hallway from Sam and Tara, becomes Sam’s romantic interest. Despite being somewhat of a newcomer, Sam’s request for him to stay behind during the final showdown with Ghostface doesn’t offend him. Danny proves himself to be a genuinely good guy by understanding her lack of trust. He willingly offers his help and manages to convince the police to head to Ghostface’s shrine. While he arrives after the intense battle, his support proves crucial in getting the survivors the necessary medical assistance. Fortunately for Danny, he emerges from the ordeal unscathed, making him the sole main character to escape without a scratch by the time the credits roll.
