Directed by Gerard Johnstone and produced by Jason Blum (“Get Out,” “BlacKkKlansman”) and James Wan (“Saw,” “Insidious,” “The Conjuring”), the movie features Alison Williams as Gemma, a brilliant roboticist working for a toy company. Gemma creates a lifelike doll equipped with artificial intelligence, designed to be the ultimate companion for children. However, the narrative takes a tragic turn when Gemma unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her recently orphaned niece and introduces the humanoid doll into her home to provide companionship.
A real actor Armie Donald plays M3GAN (short for Model 3 Generative Android), while her angelic voice is provided by Jenna Davis.
“M3GAN,” as indicated, is heavily influenced by pop-culture references, yet in its light-hearted manner, it serves as an engaging genre film. Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman noted in his review, “You don’t have to take the movie seriously to enjoy it as a high-kitsch cautionary tale for an age when technology, especially for kids, is becoming the new companionship.”
Adding to Peacock’s expanding film collection, “M3GAN” joins the likes of “Armageddon Time,” “Spoiler Alert,” “Tár,” “Violent Night,” “She Said,” “Ticket to Paradise,” “Bros,” and “Nope.” To access the complete library, you can subscribe to their Premium plan starting at $4.99/month.
Catch “M3GAN” on Peacock starting Feb. 26.
