“Lotería Loca,” the latest original series from CBS, draws its inspiration from the beloved Latin game Lotería, bearing a resemblance to the familiar game of bingo. The show pitches two players in a strategic duel, where they meticulously select cards aiming to form a triumphant three-in-a-row combination to clinch “Lotería.” A high-stakes game, the player quickest to secure the most “Loterías” on their board, advances to a final round with a million-dollar prize hanging in the balance.
A nostalgic Camil shared his personal connection with Lotería during CBS’s series announcement earlier this year, remarking, “Without a shadow of a doubt, every single Mexican family owned (and still owns) a Lotería game.” The actor emphasized the game’s deep-seated place in Mexican culture and its ability to forge a connection with heritage and evoke emotional memories.
The curiosity lingering in the air pertains to whether this Latino-themed and hosted show can strike a chord with a broad audience, especially those unfamiliar with the widely recognized game.
The creation of “Lotería Loca” is credited to Jeff Apploff, Aaron Solomon, and Alejandro Trevino, with production under the banner of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, in association with Warner Horizon and Apploff Entertainment. Alongside Jaime Camil, executive producers include Jeff Apploff, Mike Darnell, Dan Sacks, Bridgette Theriault, and Aaron Solomon, with Trevino contributing as co-executive producer and Apploff overseeing as showrunner.
