In a whirlwind of popularity, the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” raced to the summit of Netflix’s Top 10 chart within its initial four days, garnering a staggering 18.5 million total views. This rapid ascent marked a resounding success for the series, positioning it as the most-viewed title of the week.
During the previous week (Aug. 28-Sept. 3), “One Piece” had already made waves by securing a place in the Top 10 in 93 countries and claiming the No. 1 spot in 46 of them, amassing an astounding 140.1 million hours viewed. While it’s important to note that Netflix’s metrics have evolved, and they now track viewing hours, it’s interesting to compare “One Piece” with the 2021 live-action adaptation of “Cowboy Bebop,” which debuted at No. 9 with 15.26 million hours viewed in its first four days and was later canceled after one season.
On the film front, Adam Sandler’s “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” maintained its dominance, retaining the No. 1 spot with 8.8 million total views. Impressively, the film has accumulated a staggering 52 million views in just three weeks since its release, outpacing even the viewership of the Japanese manga-based “One Piece” during its initial full week of availability.
Meanwhile, on the English-Language TV list, Season 5 of “Virgin River” made a strong debut, garnering 9 million total views following its premiere on Sept. 7. This achievement pushed the UK thriller “Who is Erin Carter?” down to No. 3 with 7.1 million views.
“Top Boy” Season 3 also made a notable entry into the chart, securing the No. 4 position with 5.6 million total views in just four days of availability. Notably, “Top Boy” Season 3 boasted a shorter runtime of 5.05 hours compared to “Virgin River” Season 5, which clocked in at 7.39 hours. Despite the shorter duration, the romantic drama was viewed for an impressive 68.5 million hours, significantly surpassing the 28.7 million hours viewed by “Top Boy.”
The week also saw new entrants in the Top 10, including “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs,” “Predators,” and “Spy Ops,” ranking at No. 6, No. 7, and No. 10, respectively. Shane Gillis’ comedy special earned 2.9 million total views after its Sept. 5 premiere, while “Predators” achieved the same total views within its initial five days of availability. However, “Predators” with a runtime of 3.45 hours recorded 10.8 million hours viewed, trailing behind Gillis’ hour-long special. “Spy Ops” earned 1.9 million total views in its first three days of availability.
It’s noteworthy that “Painkiller” experienced a decline, landing at the bottom of the chart this week with 2 million total views in its fourth complete week of availability.
Additional titles on the chart include “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” with 3.1 million views and “Disenchantment” Season 5 with 2.2 million views.
These statistics reflect the ever-evolving landscape of streaming entertainment on Netflix, where adaptations, original series, and fresh releases continue to captivate audiences worldwide. The Top 10 chart for the week of Sept. 4-10 showcases the diverse array of content that keeps viewers engaged and entertained across various genres.
