“The Good Doctor” has received the green light for a seventh season at ABC, and this renewal comes ahead of the Season 6 finale.

This medical drama, making its debut in 2017, features Freddie Highmore in the role of Dr. Shaun Murphy. Dr. Murphy is a brilliant young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, working diligently in the surgical unit at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.
Joining Highmore in the cast of “The Good Doctor” is Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo, Bria Samoné Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen, and Noah Galvin as Dr. Asher Wolke.
During the ongoing season, ABC treated viewers to a backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff “The Good Lawyer,” starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman. As of now, no official decision has been made regarding the fate of this potential series.
“The Good Doctor” has proven to be a strong performer, holding its own in the competitive 10 p.m. Monday slot among adult viewers aged 18-49. In this demographic, it shares the top spot with NBC’s “Quantum Leap” among entertainment series (excluding sports and news) for the current season.
According to Nielsen’s “most current” data, which encompasses a week’s worth of viewing where available, the show maintains an average rating of 0.6 and draws in 6 million viewers.
Fans of the series can mark their calendars for the Season 6 finale of “The Good Doctor,” scheduled for May 1.
