This reimagined series, based on the 1988 show of the same name, offered a fresh perspective by portraying a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama. It centered around the imaginative 12-year-old Dean as he reflected on his childhood with the wisdom of adulthood, sharing hopeful and humorous memories of how his family experienced their “wonder years” during the late 1960s.
Don Cheadle provided the narration as adult Dean Williams, and the cast included Elisha “EJ” Williams as Dean Williams, Dulé Hill as Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh as Lillian Williams, Laura Kariuki as Kim Williams, Julian Lerner as Brad Hitman, Amari O’Neil as Cory Long, and Milan Ray as Keisa Clemmons.

ABC’s decision to cancel “The Wonder Years” adds it to the list of canceled scripted series for the network this year, including “Big Sky,” “Alaska Daily,” and “The Company You Keep.” The latter three were canceled in May during the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, while the reboot was discontinued shortly after SAG-Aftra joined the strike. ABC has not yet announced renewal or cancellation decisions for “The Rookie: Feds” and “Home Economics,” but they have ordered a pilot for “The Good Doctor” spinoff titled “The Good Lawyer,” starring Felicity Huffman and Kennedy McMann. Additionally, ABC renewed “The Good Doctor” for its seventh season in April.
“The Wonder Years” was executive produced by Lee Daniels and Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment, along with the show’s original star, Fred Savage. Saladin Patterson served as the writer and executive producer, and the series was produced by 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.
