The Made in America festival, a longstanding event in Philadelphia, has been called off for 2023, as announced by organizers on Tuesday. The cancellation is attributed to “severe circumstances outside of production control.”

Originally set to feature headliners Lizzo and SZA, the festival boasted an impressive lineup including Ice Spice, Lil Yachty, Miguel, Latto, Coi Leray, Doechii, Metro Boomin, and others, with a joint performance from veteran rappers Mase and Cam’ron. The event was scheduled to take place on Sept. 2-3 at Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The organizers conveyed in their statement, “This decision has been difficult and has not been made lightly nor without immense deliberation,” and assured ticket holders that they would receive refunds for their purchases.
Although representatives did not promptly respond to inquiries from Variety, it appears that the recent lawsuit filed against Lizzo by several former dancers, accusing her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, may have been a negative factor as the festival dates approached. Lizzo has vehemently denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Made in America has been an integral part of Philadelphia’s cultural landscape for numerous years, with last year’s festival featuring Bad Bunny and Tyler, the Creator as headliners. Established by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Entertainment, the event has become a staple in the city.
The festival, emphasizing its community-centric ethos, has contributed significantly to the economic prosperity of Philadelphia, generating over $180 million in economic impact since its inaugural two-day concert in 2012, as stated in this year’s festival announcement.
The diverse lineup for the upcoming event included headliners SZA and Lizzo, with performances by Miguel, Tems, Metro Boomin, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Latto, Lil Yachty, Doechii, Lola Brooke, Coco Jones, Paris Texas, TiaCorine, Eem Triplin, Flau’jae Johnson, Tanerélle, and Weston Estate.
