Starting April 17, 2023, “New Girl” will be accessible on both Hulu and Peacock. Under a collaborative arrangement between Disney and NBCUniversal, these two streaming platforms will share the rights to all seven seasons of the show, comprising a total of 146 episodes.
“New Girl,” featuring Zooey Deschanel in a leading role, initially made its debut on Netflix in the U.S. during the summer of 2013. The show boasts an ensemble cast that includes Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone. Originally airing on Fox from 2011 to 2018, the series has maintained its popularity among viewers over the years.
The Los Angeles-based comedy revolves around five millennial friends who inadvertently create a charmingly dysfunctional—or oddly functional—family dynamic, as described by the show’s premise.
In the opening of “New Girl,” Jess Day (played by Deschanel) finds herself in need of a new place to live following a difficult breakup. An online search leads her to a fantastic loft, where she becomes roommates with three single men she has never met before. Nick (portrayed by Johnson) is the most grounded and cynical, a former law school student turned bartender. Schmidt (played by Greenfield) is a meticulous and assertive young professional who takes pride in his chiseled physique. Winston (brought to life by Morris) is an intensely competitive former athlete at a crossroads in his life. Completing the group is Jess’s childhood best friend, Cece (depicted by Simone), a model with a talent for delivering deadpan humor.
Throughout its seven-season run, “New Girl” featured a roster of notable guest stars, including Prince, Taylor Swift, Megan Fox, Damon Wayans Jr., Justin Long, Josh Gad, Michaela Watkins, Dermot Mulroney, Lizzy Caplan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rob Reiner, Linda Cardellini, Adam Brody, Brenda Song, and Carla Gugino.
The show was conceived by Elizabeth Meriwether, who served as an executive producer alongside Brett Baer, Dave Finkel, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Peter Chernin, and Katherine Pope. Produced by Chernin Entertainment in collaboration with 20th Television, “New Girl” is distributed by Disney Entertainment.
Throughout its original airing, “New Girl” garnered numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, with Zooey Deschanel winning a Critics’ Choice Television Award for her outstanding performance in a comedy series.
