Subscribers who have been with the service for five years or longer, including those who initially signed up through Google Play, will be granted an additional three months at their current pricing.

This marks the first price adjustment for U.S. subscribers since the launch of YouTube Premium in 2018, which succeeded the YouTube Red subscription service that debuted in 2015 at a monthly cost of $9.99.
With YouTube Music’s price increase to $10.99 per month, the streaming platform aligns its pricing with competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited (for non-Prime members), both of which recently raised their fees. Meanwhile, Spotify’s individual plan in the U.S. remains at $9.99 per month, although Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has indicated the company is contemplating potential rate increases.

In response to the price changes, a representative from YouTube stated, “We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers in the U.S. to continue delivering great service and features. We believe this new price reflects the value of YouTube Premium, which allows subscribers to enjoy ad-free YouTube, along with background and offline play, as well as uninterrupted access to over 100 million songs through the YouTube Music app.”
YouTube Premium offers benefits such as ad-free video viewing, the capability to save videos and playlists on mobile devices for offline viewing, and the ability to keep videos playing while using other apps or when the screen is off. The YouTube Music Premium plan offers similar features but is primarily focused on music content.
These price adjustments for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music follow YouTube’s decision in March 2023 to raise the price of YouTube TV, its internet-based pay-TV package in the United States, by $8, bringing it to a monthly cost of $73.
