Hong Kong Disneyland – World of Frozen
Hong Kong Disneyland has just set the date that fans of “Frozen” have been eagerly awaiting: November 20, 2023, marks the grand opening of the enchanting “World of Frozen” themed land, inspired by the beloved animated movies “Frozen” and “Frozen 2.” As anticipation builds with only two months to go, we’re treated to an exclusive first look at this magical realm.
The immersive land of Arendelle invites guests to step into the Frozen universe, where they can engage in the heartwarming “Summer Snow Day” when Princess Anna saved Elsa and the kingdom through an act of love. You can also meet the Ice Queen herself, Elsa, at her magnificent Ice Palace, hop aboard the thrilling “Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs,” and partake in an interactive play experience with beloved characters at the charming “Playhouse in the Woods.”

One of the most exciting aspects of this new land is the introduction of fully-electric ‘Audio-Animatronics’ figures representing Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff. These state-of-the-art creations by Walt Disney Imagineering are their most advanced yet, promising a lifelike and enchanting encounter with your favorite characters.

Landmarks within the ‘World of Frozen’ include:
North Mountain: Towering as the highest point in Arendelle.
Ice Palace: Where Elsa first unleashes her icy powers with breathtaking grace.
Arendelle Castle: The stately home of the royal family.
Bay of Arendelle: Featuring the small fishing boat where Anna’s adventure with Prince Hans began.
Clock Tower: Where Anna danced her way into Hans’ heart.
Friendship Fountain: Witness Elsa’s magical powers as she transforms water into delicate snowflake ornamentations.
But the enchantment doesn’t end there. The ‘World of Frozen’ boasts a range of new retail and dining facilities steeped in Nordic history and culture. Savor delectable Nordic-inspired cuisine at “Golden Crocus Inn” and “Bayside Wharf.” Shop for unique treasures at “Tick Tock Toys & Collectibles” and “Traveling Traders,” or even don the rosemaling-patterned attire and glittering ice-inspired face paint, channeling your inner Elsa or Anna.

“World of Frozen” isn’t just another addition; it’s a significant part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s expansion and growth strategy, as stated by Michael Moriarty, Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
The park, co-owned by the Hong Kong government and the Walt Disney Company, with local authorities holding the majority stake, has faced financial challenges. Still, the prospects are looking brighter, thanks to the reopening of Hong Kong’s international borders and the easing of COVID restrictions, along with the highly anticipated arrival of the ‘World of Frozen.’ Although this new attraction won’t impact this year’s financial figures due to the park’s unusual financial year, running from October to September, it holds great promise for the future.
Recent weeks have seen the park temporarily closed due to typhoons passing through Lantau Island, where it’s located. Nonetheless, Hong Kong Disneyland posted a total attendance of 3.4 million visitors for the year running from October 2021 to September 2022. Revenue grew by an impressive 31%, reaching HK$2.2 billion ($282 million). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) improved by 11%, resulting in negative HK$861 million. While there’s still work to be done, the net loss narrowed to HK$2.1 billion, marking a 12% improvement compared to the previous year.
As we eagerly await the grand opening of the ‘World of Frozen,’ it’s evident that this enchanting addition will not only bring joy to fans of the Frozen franchise but also contribute to the park’s journey towards financial recovery and a brighter future.
