This heartwarming coming-of-age dramedy, written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, centers around 11-year-old Margaret, who undergoes a life-altering move from New York to New Jersey. In her new surroundings, Margaret grapples with the challenges of forging new friendships and adapting to a different school environment.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble, featuring multiple Oscar winners and nominees. Notably, Rachel McAdams, a standout in the supporting actress category, vies for a nomination. McAdams previously earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in the Best Picture winner “Spotlight” (2015). Her young co-star, Abby Ryder Fortson, who portrays Margaret, is set to campaign as the film’s lead.
The film also includes seasoned talents like Kathy Bates, known for her iconic role in “Misery,” portraying Margaret’s grandmother. The production team features the celebrated James L. Brooks, renowned composer Hans Zimmer, and the legendary costume designer Ann Roth, whose potential nomination would make her the oldest individual ever to receive a nomination in any category.
Kelly Fremon Craig has previously received a nomination for the Directors Guild of America Awards’ first-time director prize for her work on “The Edge of Seventeen” (2016), a film that also secured a Golden Globe nomination for its lead actress, Hailee Steinfeld. “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” currently stands as the best-reviewed wide-release film of the year, boasting an impressive 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

To enhance its buzz and reach, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” has been added to the Newport Beach Film Festival lineup. The screening will be accompanied by a post-screening Q&A session featuring author Judy Blume, director Kelly Fremon Craig, and producers James L. Brooks and Julie Ansell.
