Taylor Swift is moving up the release of her “Eras Tour” concert film by a day, surprising her fans with an earlier premiere date. The film was initially set to open on Friday the 13th, but Swift decided to release it on Thursday, with showtimes starting at 6 p.m. She made the announcement on Instagram, attributing the change to “unprecedented demand.” Additional showtimes will be added on Friday and throughout the weekend, with the film debuting in 90 countries worldwide.

Before the adjustment in showtimes, the “Eras Tour” was expected to make a significant domestic box office debut, with projections ranging from $100 million to $125 million. The concert film captures Swift’s three-hour stadium tour performance and is anticipated to earn an extra $30 million to $50 million internationally. This is expected to result in a global debut of approximately $150 million to $175 million or more.
Remarkably, “Eras Tour” had already garnered over $100 million in advance ticket sales worldwide prior to its release, making it the highest-grossing concert film in history. This surpasses the 2011 film “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which grossed $99 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film’s release is particularly exciting for movie theaters, which have been anticipating a lighter fall season due to delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike. Taylor Swift has encouraged her fans to treat the big screen experience as if it’s another stop on her stadium tour, inviting them to wear “Eras attire,” bring friendship bracelets, and sing and dance along.
