In a recent social media revelation, acclaimed actress Nia Long has raised her voice against both her former fiancée, Ime Udoka, and the Boston Celtics organization, spotlighting their conduct amid Udoka’s purported affair with Kathleen Lynch. This Tuesday’s post marked the first occasion where the Brooklyn-born star publicly identified Lynch, Udoka’s alleged mistress and erstwhile colleague at the Celtics.

Through her social media platform, Long shared a video featuring a Black woman addressing two Caucasian women about the prevalent indifference to “white tears.” The video, excerpted from a March 2022 episode of Glennon Doyle’s podcast, “We Can Do Hard Things,” saw Dr. Yaba Blay, a renowned teacher, author, and activist, discussing the contrasting empathy received by Black and white women.

Blay asserted, “Most of us are unmoved by White tears because we don’t actually think they’re real. It’s a performance. It’s a switch that you turn on because you know that we have been socialized to see you as more human and of more value. So whatever it is you think and whatever it is you feel, we are supposed to respond to it. Y’all don’t respond to Black women crying the same way. Nobody does… nobody does.”

Blay went on to articulate the underlying societal conditioning that results in such discrepancies in empathy and accountability. “The minute a white woman cries, the world has to stop. ‘Oh, my God, what’s wrong with you baby.’ Black woman cry, we can be rolling around on the ground screaming and you are unmoved because you have been socialized to not see us as human beings. Our tears don’t matter to you, but a white woman? And y’all know that sh*t and that’s why I’m not here for the fragility. You know that. And so you very deliberately turn the shit on as a way to avoid accountability.” she remarked.
Captioning the revealing post, Long questioned the Celtics’ awareness, implying a lack of action and concern from the organization. This contention comes in the wake of Udoka’s suspension by the Boston Celtics following revelations of his alleged affair with a staffer, reported to be Lynch.
Subsequent to the public disclosure of Udoka’s infidelity, Long severed their engagement and publicly expressed her dissatisfaction with both Udoka and the Celtics, branding the organization’s handling of the situation as “disappointing.”
