SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) recently held their first face-to-face negotiation session since the union declared a strike on July 14. Although specific details about the discussions remain confidential, both parties intend to reconvene at SAG-AFTRA’s headquarters in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile neighborhood later this week.

A spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA stated, “SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP had an extensive bargaining session and have adjourned. Negotiations will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 4.” High-profile figures from the entertainment industry, including Bob Iger, Donna Langley, David Zaslav, and Ted Sarandos, participated in this meeting. In preparation for the negotiations, SAG-AFTRA encouraged its members to continue their picketing activities in various locations.

On social media, the union urged its members, saying, “Today, we return to the bargaining table to advocate for the contract you rightfully deserve. As we engage in negotiations, we request that you maintain your presence. Show up in full force at our picket lines and solidarity events nationwide. Let the AMPTP hear your powerful voices. Your participation matters.”
The recent resolution of the Writers Guild of America strike has raised optimism that an agreement with the actors’ union will follow suit. SAG-AFTRA’s key priorities include securing improved payment terms for members in vulnerable roles, such as extras, background actors, and day players. Additionally, the union is aiming to address concerns related to generative artificial intelligence and the utilization of actor likenesses through advanced rendering technologies, while also seeking an increase in streaming residuals.
