Shakira began her performance with “She Wolf,” which seamlessly incorporated the eye-catching choreography made famous in the song’s iconic 2009 music video. Quickly, she transitioned into “Te Felicito,” a collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, and then delivered a powerful rendition of “TQG” with Karol G.

Returning to her early musical roots, Shakira captivated audiences with her singing and belly dancing skills while performing classics such as “Protest”, “Whenever, Whenever where” and “Hip Don’t Lie”. A standout moment occurred during “BZRP Music Sessions #53” when Shakira crowd-surfed the audience, with one fan proudly waving a Colombian flag in her honor.
After an impressive performance, Shakira returned to receive the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award from Wycleaf Jean. She expressed gratitude to her family, creative collaborators, and most importantly, her devoted fan base, whom she calls her “army.”
Notably, Shakira became the first South American artist to receive the MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, joining a prestigious list of previous honorees that includes Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Miss Elliott.
Bruce Gillmer, president of music, musical talent, programming and events at Paramount, praised Shakira as a “truly global force” and a pioneer for women around the world. He praised her for being at the forefront of the globalization of Latin music and noted that her lasting impact on the music industry is undeniable.

Shakira’s 2023 was highlighted by several chart-topping collaborations, including “Monotonía” with Ozuna, “BZRP Music Sessions #53” with Argentinian artist Bizarrap, “TGQ” with Karol G and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo.
At the awards ceremony, Shakira received nominations in four other categories: artist of the year, best collaboration for “TQG” with Karol G, and best Latin video for both “TQG” and “Acróstico”.
This year’s award adds to Shakira’s previous MTV Video Music Awards wins, including her win in 2000 for International Audience Choice (North Latin America) for her single “Ojos Así ” in 1998 and in 2002 in the same category for “Whenever, Wherever/Suerte”. ” She also won the award for best choreography in the video “Hips Don’t Lie”.
