Described as “one day in the twisted love life of a serial killer,” “Strange Darling” stars the talented Willa Fitzgerald, known for her role in Amazon’s “Reacher,” and the versatile Kyle Gallner, whose credits include “Smile” and “Scream.” In a heart-pounding clip exclusively released by Variety, Fitzgerald, known only as “The Lady” in the film, hurtles down a desolate highway in a striking red Ford Pinto, desperately trying to escape the relentless pursuit of Gallner’s character. The chase takes a sinister turn as bullets shatter her back windshield, and Gallner attempts to run her down with a menacing pickup truck, forcing the game of survival into the treacherous wilderness on foot.
Director J.T. Mollner shared his vision for the film, saying, “This film was a sort of dream (or nightmare) that I was compelled to bring to life. Every aspect of it – the vibrant colors, the captivating music, the cohesive visual style, and the well-defined characters – was meticulously planned before we even began filming. My ultimate goal was to create an unforgettable experience, a rollercoaster ride like no other. We understood that the success of our movie relied heavily on the casting choices we made, and it’s safe to say that the performances delivered by the actors became the foundation of this masterpiece.
Adding to the creative prowess behind the camera is actor Giovanni Ribisi, who serves as both director of photography and a producer on the project. “Strange Darling” is set to be distributed by Miramax, with an impressive lineup of producers, including Bill Block, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Chris Ivan Cevic. Executive producers of the film include Thom Zadra, Michael J. Zampino, Dan Lawler, and Ezra Emanuel.
J.T. Mollner’s journey to “Strange Darling” follows his feature writer-director debut with the revisionist western “Outlaws and Angels.” This film garnered recognition at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and was shot on 35mm, showcasing Mollner’s ongoing collaboration with Kodak Motion Picture Film. Notably, he became the inaugural recipient of the Kodak Auteur Award. “Strange Darling” marks his much-anticipated follow-up and was completed this year. Mollner’s artistic talents extend beyond the silver screen, with a portfolio that includes award-winning short films, music videos, and commercials, including notable spots for Monster Energy Drink and Lincoln.
