20th Century Studios has disclosed new plot details, cast additions, and production updates for the upcoming “Alien” film.

Although the specific premise of the yet-to-be-titled movie remains a secret, the studio has unveiled that the film will revolve around “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

The individuals set to confront these terrifying entities include David Jonsson (“Industry”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Rosaline”), Spike Fearn (“The Batman”), and Aileen Wu (“Away from Home”). They will join the previously announced lead, Cailee Spaeny (“Mare of Easttown”).
In addition to the cast announcement, 20th Century Studios revealed that production for the ninth film in the “Alien” franchise is scheduled to commence on March 9 in Budapest.

Fede Alvarez, who previously directed horror films such as “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” “Don’t Breathe,” and the “Evil Dead” remake, will serve as the director, screenwriter, and producer for the project. Original “Alien” director Ridley Scott, under the Scott Free banner, joins as an executive producer alongside Michael Pruss (“Our Friend”). Producers for the film include Brent O’Connor (“Bullet Train”), Elizabeth Cantillon (“Persuasion”), and Tom Moran (“The Donut King”).
The untitled project is part of the “Alien” franchise, which started in 1979 with “Alien,” followed by “Aliens,” “Alien 3,” “Alien Resurrection,” and the crossover series that began in 2004 with “Alien vs. Predator” and “Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.” The prequel series, starting with “Prometheus” in 2012 and followed by “Alien: Covenant,” is the most recent iteration. While the production date is set for March 9, the film has yet to announce a premiere date.
